ROVOP truly invests in its people, thus making it an exciting and ever-expanding business to join for young people. The company welcomed me from day one by organizing in-depth inductions about the company’s departments, history and values. Working at ROVOP increased my business awareness by making me understand how different roles within the company contribute to its global success. This exposure to different areas of ROVOP as well as its great culture and fascinating history made me eager to get involved with each department’s work.
My main role consisted of assisting the Training and Competence Manager with the creation of a new appraisal process, contributing to new competencies frameworks and career progression pathways for ROVOP’s different departments. This project will be implemented across the business and significantly impact company’s morale and performance. I also gained the ability to file the company’s databases with certificates for offshore and onshore personnel, thus gaining an enhanced understanding of compliance and regulations in the Oil and Gas industry. The valuable experience I gained in the development of updated performance management tools was an incredible opportunity and benefitted me massively both on a personal and professional level.
ROVOP is keen on giving the chance to contribute to different areas of the company, that’s why I also shadowed and assisted the following teams:
Commercial Contracts: reviewing Terms & Conditions, contracts etc. ROVOP Ltd operates in different jurisdictions, thus the department deals with cross-jurisdictional work. The insight I got into the department’s job enhanced my legal skillset and made me aware of the importance of cross-cultural awareness, language skills and business acumen, which are highly transferrable to professional careers in contract management, legal and business. This made me realise how important the role of the Training & Competence team is in ensuring that offshore personnel have the relevant certificates to follow the legal regulations of the different jurisdictions in which the Offshore Personnel operates.
HR: reviewing applications, drafting job descriptions, assisting the HR Manager with the onboarding process of new employees, contributing to the overall recruitment process. Human Resources is an essential department because it ensures the right people for the business join the company: moreover, being an intern in Training and Competence, I gained a more complete and well-rounded understanding of people’s recruitment, retention and development strategies.
Upon completion of my two-month internship, I will go back to university with a renewed sense of confidence and professional achievement. ROVOP gave me plenty of responsibility and a chance to undertake varied and commercially valuable work in an international company. For all these reasons, I wish to encourage aspirant interns and future graduates to consider applying to ROVOP Ltd: the breadth of experience offered to young professionals is truly unique and will allow you to gain highly transferrable skills which can be employed in a wide range of industries.
