The graduate scheme at ROVOP offers a fantastic opportunity for graduates to challenge themselves and make a real contribution to the company. I have always had a passion for technology and the subsea industry - having family in the industry and growing up nearby means that isn’t too surprising!
I first heard about ROVOP during my university studies. I had an industry placement at one of ROVOP’s suppliers, and through this heard about how great it was to work there. The business itself, being an SME undergoing rapid growth, presents an exciting opportunity to anyone joining the company. For me personally, I have always wanted to work for a forward-thinking and innovative company where I can play a meaningful role in its success – providing me with a platform to showcase my passion and skills and not just be a number.
Upon graduating from Robert Gordon University with a BA Hons in International Business Management, I applied for ROVOP’s graduate scheme. Shortly after, I was invited to the graduate assessment day which further convinced me that ROVOP was the perfect place for me to start my career. The graduate assessment day demonstrated how much the company invests in its workforce, in both time and money. For me, this was assurance that I would get the necessary training and exposure to further develop and advance my career from the get-go.
Upon being selected after the assessment day, I was placed in the Business Development and Commercial team. This was great for me, as it related closely to my degree and made sure I was able to contribute meaningfully straight away. Both departments are heavily involved right across the business, giving me the opportunity to find my feet and start to understand what makes ROVOP tick from a macro-level.
I was fortunate enough to join at a time where the Business Development Managers were also new to the company. An offsite meeting to strategise and get the team on the same page was organised – little did I know it would be in New York City!
This was obviously a highlight for me, working alongside highly experienced senior management and being able to contribute by presenting my ideas to them – making me feel like a valued member of the team, even as a graduate!
I enjoyed my time in the Operations team so much so that I extended my placement within the department to a year, which ROVOP were more than happy to allow. I feel like this is an area of the business I would like to end up in after my graduate scheme concludes and getting this additional experience has been beneficial already.
I have now progressed to the point where I am the Project Manager for several of our offshore projects around the world. Whilst a huge learning curve, it has been extremely exciting and rewarding for me.
ROVOP is hosting a Graduate Open day on the 4th of December. I would encourage you to register so that you can learn more about how to join our Graduate Programme. You can find out more here: https://www.rovop.com/careers/graduate
