ROVOP has raised more than £10,000 for its 2023/2024 charity partner, Maggie’s Aberdeen.
Its charitable efforts have seen colleagues take part in many fundraising events, including team lunches and BBQ, a bake-off and sporting challenges, as well as the annual charity ball, golf day and Maggie’s Culture Crawl.
Fundraising kicked off in August 2023, after the charity was selected by employees.
Established in 1996, Maggie’s has 26 centres across the UK. Maggie’s Centres provide free emotional, practical and social support to people with cancer and their family and friends.
Its centre in Aberdeen offers a warm welcome and a relaxing, homely environment for anyone affected by cancer. Specialist staff at the centre offer one-to-one advice as well as group sessions, workshops and courses aimed at helping to address the physical and psychological impact of living with cancer.
Shellie Stewart, EA/Fundraising Manager, explained: “Every year we support a charity, nominated by our people. We know that almost everybody is affected by cancer in their life at some point, whether directly or via a friend or family member. With this in mind, we were very proud to choose Maggie’s as our charity partner, and we loved taking part in a whole host of activities.
“A particular highlight was joining hundreds of other locals on the city’s streets for Maggie’s Culture Crawl in June. It was a fabulous evening, and even one of the few summer nights that remained dry this year!”
The ROVOP team was encouraged to take part in the events throughout the year, showing amazing support for Maggie’s Aberdeen and appreciation of what the Maggie’s team do on a daily basis to help and support families in the local area.
Shellie and Neil Potter, CEO, met with Richard Stewart, Fundraising Manager and Rebecca Stewart, Centre Fundraiser at Maggie’s Centre Aberdeen, to have a tour of the facility and were pleased to be able to hand over the cheque to them.
Richard Stewart, centre fundraising manager at Maggie’s Aberdeen, said: “We rely on voluntary donations and gifts in wills to fund the services we provide and successful corporate partnerships like this are an important income stream for us.
“We would like to take this opportunity to say a massive thanks to everybody at ROVOP for selecting us as their charity partner, the money raised will continue to support people and their families in the region who are living with cancer. A huge thank you to Shellie and the team at ROVOP, a tremendous support to Maggie’s and we hope to work with you again in the future.”
