Annual subsea inspection during Covid pandemic

What we delivered

With an ageing North Sea asset requiring its final annual subsea inspection campaign prior to decommissioning, ROVOP was called upon to provide a bespoke solution.

The answer was to mobilise a Seaeye Panther XT+ 950 mid-size ROV to the floating production vessel. The 14-slot subsea template at 140 MSW was inspected, along with the vessel’s hulls, flowlines, umbilicals and risers. A series of CVI, GVI and CP techniques were used.

ROVOP also coordinated operations closely with a third-party contractor for anchor cleaning and measurement operations, while photogrammetry operations were also conducted to assist with the removal planning process.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, accommodation onboard the FPV was limited. ROVOP successfully navigated this obstacle through live audiovisual streaming, with ROVOP staff onshore in Aberdeen remotely managing the inspection campaign – thus reducing the offshore headcount by three persons.
