My experience as a Graduate Engineer at ROVOP

With the date set for the ROVOP Graduate Open Day, I thought I would reflect on my first year as a Graduate Engineer at ROVOP.

From the outset, it was clear to me that ROVOP were fully committed in investing in me as well as moulding me to not only understand the technical and operational aspects of the business, but the company as a whole. This has been accomplished by a clearly thought out and structured scheme, consisting of rotations within all the departments (bias to operations) whilst tracking my progress through the Training and Competency scheme of ROVOP Academy.

The invaluable time my colleagues have spent with me across the rotations has allowed me to gain a broad overview of how the departments are linked in the business, to an in depth understanding of each department’s relevant outputs. Only half way into the two-year scheme, I have gained competency in the following areas:

Operations: ensuring asset certification is up to date, assisting project managers, contributing to various technical problem solving; Commercial: long/short form tender preparation, attending client meetings, taking part in project handovers, development of our asset utilisation projections and look-forward; Workshop: maintaining our ROV system assets through hands on experience in the workshop.

In just the first year, I have helped exhibit across Europe, gained offshore experience with our ROV systems and built a great relationship with my company and colleagues. Within the next few months I will be spending some time in our offices in Houston and am excited to find out what the next few years have to offer.
